SEO Audit for Shopify help
Frequently asked questions
Last updated: 12 October 2026My store is password protected. Can I still run an audit?
Yes. When you start an audit, the app tells you your storefront is password protected and asks for the storefront password (the one customers would type, not your admin login). It is used for that audit only and never saved. If you leave it blank, the app skips the page checks and still runs the checks that use your store data. Page speed can't be measured on a password-protected store, so that check shows as not checked.
My audit didn't finish. What should I do?
Most audits take one to two minutes. If an audit is still running after 15 minutes, the app marks it as failed. Run a new audit from the Run audit page. If it keeps happening, email us at contact@capewired.com with your store address.
Why does a check say "not checked"?
Some checks rely on something the app couldn't reach during that audit. Common reasons:
- Page speed: Google PageSpeed Insights didn't respond in time or couldn't reach your store, for example because it is password protected.
- Pages that didn't load: the app couldn't open your homepage or a key page.
- Search: your store's search couldn't be reached, for example if predictive search is switched off.
The check explains the reason. Checks that weren't checked don't block your overall band. Run a new audit later to try again.
Why did my score change between audits?
Every audit checks your store again from scratch. Your score can change because:
- you fixed something (or something broke, such as a deleted page)
- you picked different key pages
- you answered questions differently
- a check couldn't run this time, or could run when it couldn't before
- for page speed, results naturally vary a little from one test to the next.
Your audit history shows each audit's score so you can compare them.
Does the app change my store?
No. The app is read-only. It never changes your products, pages, theme or settings.
Does the app slow my store down?
No. It adds no code or scripts to your storefront, so your customers never load anything from it. During an audit it visits at most 50 pages, one per second.
What data does the app read and store?
It reads your products, collections, pages, blog articles, menus, redirects and theme file names, and visits your public pages. It does not access orders, customers or payments. It stores your audit results, key pages, answers and any AI prompt results you record. See Privacy for the full summary.
Do my "Mark as done" ticks carry over to my next audit?
No. Ticks belong to one audit and don't change your score. A new audit checks everything again, so you can see whether each fix worked.
How often should I run an audit?
When you have worked through your action plan, and at least every 90 days. The app shows a suggested re-audit date.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstall the app from your Shopify admin. Its access to your store ends straight away. Shopify then sends a deletion request, usually 48 hours after you uninstall, and the app deletes everything it holds about your store at that point. You can also ask us to delete your data, or send you a copy, by emailing contact@capewired.com.
Is this the same as the Self-Audit Kit?
The app is built on the same 40 checks as the Cape Wired Shopify DIY Self-Audit Kit. The kit goes further, with worked examples, the full checklist and the scorecard. Find out more about the kit.
